In Memory of Sam

We are very grateful to the family and friends of Sam Richards who have donated over £1200 at the time of writing.

Sam’s music teacher is holding a 24 hour music marathon to raise funds for YRMU in his memory.

Here is his story…

“I have been a guitarist and music teacher for most of my life, and once taught a young man called Sam to play guitar. Sam grew up and I did not hear of him for a few years until this September, when I learnt that he had tragically lost his life on his 20th birthday.

I remember Sam well, and so have decided to do something to raise money for “You Raise Me Up” – a Charity who have supported Sam’s family.

This is the plan……..

Starting at 09:00 on Saturday 9th December in The Clifford Hall, Beulah Baptist Church, Bexhill On Sea, East Sussex TN40 1QA I will be playing guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and anything else FOR 24 HOURS; finishing on Sunday morning just before the church’s first service.

Although I’m well prepared for a solo effort I’d really like other musicians to get involved and make it more fun, so if anyone would like to come along during the 24 hrs and join me for a short or long time to play, sing or just sit and encourage myself and any other performers, they will be most welcome.

If you wish to play, find me on twitter or facebook and I will be glad to give you further details.

Finally, here are a few words about Sam; written by Julie, his mum…..

Samuel Anthony Richards was born 26/08/1997. From the moment he was born he was noticed. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. He had the biggest smile that lit up a room and he was always happy. Sam our beautiful son, brother, boyfriend, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend tragically lost his life on his 20th Birthday. He is missed by all of us every day, every second….. Sam had a true passion for music and had a talent for playing the guitar, even if he didn’t want to play it to us…..”
